Theobromine and caffeine – go down a treat.

Theobromine and caffeine belong to the group of chemical substances known as purines, and to the class of active substances called the methylxanthines, which in turn count among the alkaloids.

Theobromine is the main alkaloid in cocoa, and its caffeine content is comparatively low. It tastes bitter and is responsible for the bitterness of cocoa, along with other compounds.

The RITTER SPORT Espresso variety contains less than 0.07g of caffeine per 100g. The higher the cocoa content of a chocolate variety, the higher its theobromine content. On average, the theobromine content is between 0.1g and 0.7g per 100g.
