Sustainability management

RITTER SPORT as a partner of external organisations

Sustainability is a team effort.

RITTER SPORT sets a good example when it comes to sustainability. And not just at its own factory. As a member of various organisations, RITTER SPORT works on sustainability throughout the whole company. Here are some examples:

German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa

The German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa (Gisco) is a joint initiative between the German government, the confectionery industry, the food industry and NGOs and standards developing organisations (Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and UTZ Certified). They have all set themselves the goal of improving the living conditions of cocoa farmers. The members develop methods to increase sustainability in cocoa cultivation as well as quality criteria for specific projects. RITTER SPORT is a member of the German Initiative on Sustainable Cocoa in order to have a positive impact on the social and ecological conditions in other cultivation regions as well as its own projects in Nicaragua

Biodiversity In Good Company

The Biodiversity In Good Company initiative is an amalgamation of companies that support the preservation of biological diversity. These companies have integrated the protection of biodiversity into their sustainability strategy and operational management. RITTER SPORT addresses the effects of farming on biodiversity for all agricultural raw materials used and strives for continuous improvement.

RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil)

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) is an association founded by the WWF to promote the production and use of sustainable palm oil. The main principles include farmers applying suitable methods which, for example, preserve biodiversity and guarantee that soil fertility is maintained in the long run. Since palm oil is an important component of filled chocolates, RITTER SPORT only uses RSPO-certified palm oil following the Mass Balance model.

AöL (Association of Ecological Food Producers)

The Association of Ecological Food Producers (AöL) was founded in 2002 and advocates the further development of European legislation, particularly organic legislation, increasing value awareness for food and process quality for organic food.
RITTER SPORT is the first and, so far, the only mass manufacturer to have introduced its own organic range to the market, doing so in 2008 – for owner Alfred T. Ritter this is a matter dear to his heart.
